Dufry positive about summer travel as it waits for Europe to reopen

Swiss duty free retailer Dufry (DUFN.S) said on Thursday it sees "encouraging signs" for a pick up in foreign travel this summer after pandemic restrictions drove a 67% plunge in first-quarter underlying turnover. The retailer, which operates more than 2,300 shops at airports, on cruise liners, in seaports, and other tourist locations worldwide, said it has great expectations for the coming months, adding that last week was the best in terms of sales volumes since the beginning of the pandemic

Brexit hits Spanish January-February imports from Britain

MADRID, April 15 (Reuters) - Britain’s exit from the European Union has hit Spanish imports from Britain in the first two months of the year as new EU trade rules disrupt trade flows across the Channel. Spain’s imports from the UK decreased 49% in the first two months of the year compared with the same period a year ago. By contrast, intra-EU trade data showed Spanish imports fell only 7%, the Spanish industry ministry said on Thursday. During the same period, Spanish exports to Britain decreased 15%, much more than the 5.1% drop of Spain’s sales to other EU partners. The ministry hasn’t provided trade balance data with individual countries.

Spain announces new tax fraud measures after wave of YouTubers move to Andorra

- Spain’s tax agency said on Monday it would start using “big data” to track wealthy individuals who pretend to reside abroad for tax purposes. The crackdown comes after some of Spain’s most popular YouTube personalities moved their residency to Andorra, a wealthy microstate perched in the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain, with lower tax rates than its larger neighbours. As part of a push to harness more varied data, the agency will sift through as many as 70 different sources, including records from other tax payers, to highlight a few suspected fraudsters, a source with the agency said. The tax agency did not say what had motivated its clampdown. Two weeks ago, Ruben Doblas, who posts YouTube videos under the moniker El Rubius, announced via livestream that he was moving to Andorra, stirring a debate in the Spanish media about where digital high-earners should pay their taxes.

Sales of vehicles older than 20 years jumped 31% year-on-year in July and August to nearly 44,000 cars, according to data from the Institute of Automotive Studies. The average price of those purchases was around 1,400 euros ($1,655.36), vehic

The SassyScience Project: Empowering minorities in STEM, one wig at a time —

At the other end of my double life, I was a PhD student in nanoscience trying to make it work at the lab. The nanotechnology research project where I am a fellow tasked me with developing a “Grand Challenge,” an individual project I had to do on either science communication, business, or both. Through this challenge, I found a way to merge three of my favorite things in the world: science, activism, and drag. Then and there, The SassyScience Project was created by yours truly, Dr. Sass.
